...an open and affirming church

Earth Day, 2008

Aloha Church and Friends,
We had an amazing Earth Day service this past Sunday with 32 in worship. Through preaching, prayer, and shared community experience, we lifted up ideas and identified ways each one of us could make a difference for Mother Earth. One thing I said was, "we cannot separate out Creation from the Creator....they are intricately connected and to honor one is to honor both." We encouraged each of you to go to www.earthday.net and click on 'Ecological Footprint' and take the short survey to find our how many earths it would take to support your lifestyle....please do this, it is very enlightening. We handed out a prize of two energy efficient light bulbs to the person who guessed my number and "Andrew" was the winner. After church we met at Isaac Hale Park for a picnic and then picked up trash as a service to our community and to our earth. I'm very proud of our church for taking seriously the 'green' lifestyle as much as possible. Thanks to everyone who continues to bring your recycling to church....it's good for the earth and good for our church building fund. One day we will have a church of our own and be able to put into practice many of the ideas and suggestions that have been shared with us by MCC headquarters. I have forwarded the below message as I thought it was a worthy read and would help connect us to the global efforts MCC is doing to be a 'green' denomination. Blessings!
